Chasing the Snake

Pullman, WA and The Palouse Region

The name comes from the Snake River - many rides involve crossing the various bridges and dams across the Snake.

Hosted by Randall Mietzner and John & Chris Thompson

Ride over on Friday, and then on Saturday enjoy riding the great roads of SE Washington, the Central Idaho panhandle, and/or NE Oregon.

Saturday begins with breakfast at the Old European Restaurant on South Grand Ave. in Pullman, WA at 8AM. Then we break up into groups and go enjoy a day of riding. Starting in the later afternoon, co-hosts John and Chris Thompson have a BBQ at their country home five miles south of Colfax WA.

Thompson Ranch directions:

5 miles south of Colfax, 11.7 miles North of Pullman, just off Hwy195, on Shawnee Road - White house with a green roof, red barn... It's the only house you'll see from the highway.
GPS:

John has tent space in his yard, and Randall usually has a couple of riders use the extra space at his place, ouchh, floor, or 2nd bedroom. Also, there is the American Travel Inn, next door to the Old Euro as a Motel of Choice for the event.

Randall will have highlighted routes and suggestions based on his local knowledge of the roads and routes.

Potential Routes

Some of the routes people were thinking about for the 2001 CtS:

note: out of Avery, there's about 30 miles of hard packed gravel/dirt road to Wallace. Brian took it last year, two-up with Mariana. Truman made it just fine on his VFR. It's a beautiful ride, going through several railroad tunnels and over many one lane (former railroad) bridges.

The Fabled Inner Passage

East from the Columbia River, on State Hwy 26, The first crossing road, once you get out of the Columbia River Valley, is the Berrely Burke Rd. N. on this road until you go over the Frennchman Hiills, the road on the N. side, is tah dah, Frendman Hills Road, go east on this road, there will be a stop sign every 10 miles, until the hills stop, and the rd comes to a stop sign, go east, and in a couple of miles There's a Texaco station/Conven. Store - Continue east and it takes you past the Sullivan 'Dam' Resevoir. A few more miles east, and thrun south on Hwy 17

Off hwy 17, east to Warden, gas available in town. Warden to Lind, is over the rolling Hill and dale of the far western Palouse. Gas is available at two places in Lind, a Grange credit card unattended pumps, and a small gas station also is open weekdays.

Lind to Ralston, Ralston to Biennge, Benge to Endicott and on to Colfax, Colfax has several gas stations, I think it's pretty much gas dry tween LInd and Colfax.
