Stealth riding is riding in such a way as to be seen but not noticed. I
envision it to be flowing thru traffic like a creek flows around rocks. No
drama, no loud noises just smooth flow. Here are some of my random thoughts
on stealth riding.
Smooth is the key. Most car drivers don't "see" motorcycles anyway. In
stealth riding we can take advantage of this by being smooth. We don't want
to do anything that would cause the driver to put down the lattie and pick
up the cell phone.
Keep the speed you travel at reasonable. Darting thru traffic at triple the
speed the cars are going is reckless and endangering. Flowing thru at 20
over dosen't attract near the attention
Be alert and aware. Watch what's going on around you. If the cars ahead of
you start brakeing for no apparent reason slow down and find out the reason.
If you notice a car gaining on you from the rear slow down, move right and
let them pass. If it's a LEO he'll catch up to you then pace you. If it's
not a LEO then you've got a rabbit.
Rabbits. Let them go. Don't get on their tail and give the appearance of
road racing. let them run a mile or two out in front and flush out the
LEO's.
Stay out of the left lane. Thats where the most speeding is done so it is
also where the most attention is placed. Now days Leos are useing Lazers to
tag speeders. These need to be held steady so they will hold on a lane of
traffic and laze everyone in it. If you use the left lane to pass get back
over when the pass is done.
Watch for potential hiding places and traps. Over/under passes are popular
hiding places. Small towns and school zones are examples of traps. Again be
alert and aware.
When riding two lane country roads slow down when approaching traffic either
in your lane or on coming. You don't know if the car you've just seen
cresting a hill a mile or so ahead is LEO or a farmer. You don't know if the
reason the camper in front of you is going 50 in a 55 is because he's
following a LEO. Again alert and aware means no drama.
Be ready to slow down. Most LEO's drive with the radar on scan mode. They
have to reach up and hit a button to get a lock on you. Use that second or
two to get with in +10 of the speed limit. Smooth is the key, no stoppies
just enough brakes to slow down keeping the drama to a minium.
If you do get pulled over slow down, turn your turn signal on and pull over
in a big wide area. Get as far off the road as you can for the safety of you
and the officer. Turn the bike off and take off your helmet and balaclava.
Be polite and civil. If you've been riding stealthly the chances are good
you'll get a warning. If you do get a ticket just accept it, thank the
officer and ride on. The time to fight the ticket if you choose is in the
court room not on the side of the road.

I like my rabbits in front of me where I can see them. This could be
anywhere between 1/4 to 3/4 mile, depending on road conditions.
I'll add that this technique works well for organized speed traps. The
guy in front must get "out of the way" before they can get a good lock
on you. By observing what's happened in front, you remain in relative
safety. If he was 1-2 miles in front, he'd already be stopped and
you've just become target numero uno.
