Hi, I'm new to motorcycling, and I am from Eugene, but I saw a bike that I am interested in up north in southern portland (area code 97068). I don't have enough mechanical experience to trust my own evaluation of a bike, so I am wondering whether anyone can recommend a good shop/mechanic to inspect a motorcycle in that are. The motorcycle I am looking at is a 1979 honda CX500.
Thanks

Hi, Sorandal!
Welcome to WetLeather.
First thing you should know: almost nobody uses the web forums. If you want good feedback, join the e-mail list. That's where all the discussions really happen. http://www.micapeak.com/lists/wetleather will get you to a "New Subscriber" for that will allow you to get on the e-mail list. It's not integrated with the web forums or the website very much at all.
Second, my opinion: If you don't have the mechanical skills to evaluate a 1979 CX500, you need to re-think buying such a bike. The venerable CX is tough and almost foolproof, but just because it's so old, it's going to need a lot of maintenance, even after the initial repairs that will almost certainly be required to make it safe on the road. You could easily spend double the price just for parts and materials.
Good luck!
