DVD-R

The neighbors are having a yard sale. So I got the old Nordic Trac out and put a "For Sale - Make Offer" sign on it, just in case.  Probably won't sell, but might get it out of my garage. While I was out front, I finally got around to fixing the one front step - except I didn't have enough of the right screws to secure it back. Sigh. Another task deferred. I did get quite a bit of scraping done on the steps and railing and pickets, though.

Rhonda wanted to go to the fruit/veg stand, so we did. And on the way back, went to Circuit City. I bought a Toshiba D-R400 DVD recorder to replace the DVD player that failed last night. Recreational shopping? I guess.

It seems to be a pretty good unit. I spent most of the afternoon playing around with it, trying out the record feature with playback from the DirecTV DVR, and programming options in the Harmony 670 remote.

But for my OTHER intended use, archiving old retail VHS movies - mostly Disney - it does not work. Displays the "this program is not allowed to be recorded" message indicating the MPAA's lobbying and SCOTUS DMCA foolishness are working to enforce Macrovision copy portection.  The lack of reasonably-priced online offers of "Macrovision Killer" video-stabilizer appliances that regenerate the Sync signal without the Macrovision corruption is a further indication of MPAA corruption of the legal system; prior to 2002 the Fair Use Doctrine made it quite clear that I have a right to transfer these movies that I purchased legally onto another medium.

So, does anybody have a good used Sima SC-2{00} or even the old Archer Video Stabilizer that they're willing to loan me for a few weeks, or sell cheap? When I'm done with my box o'tapes, I'll pass it along to the next WetLeatherite or friend who wants to do the same.
