Weekly Photo Challenge #2?

Do we have a theme for this week's photo challenge?  I'm hoping to actually get out and shoot some stuff this time!

New Photo Topic

Got any ideas Dennis? If so, let's do it. Any excuse to take photos. Here's an idea that doesn't require any special photo trip. Use your lens at wide angle and set to largest aperture (f2ish). Take close ups of people, pets, objects, fruit in the grocery store etc. but make sure the background is part of the scene even though it will be blurred. Other ideas? --Terry

I'm in on the shallow DOF pics.

Great challenge Terry. I'll have my feeble attempt posted by Friday.

Challenge #2 ideas

I like that one.  I thought that the "books" suggestion from last week was a cool idea, too.  I may combine the two :-)

Given the time of year, how about a "leaves" project?  Not necessarily capturing fall leaf colors (although that would be a good subject), but just doing something with leaves.

Leaves

Find a particularly nice leaf, preferably with water droplets. Position it so that you get nice background of trees, other plants etc. This will require you to get on your stomach. :-) Ever see those really close up shots of water droplets reflecting back like a mirror? Those are cool too. --Terry

Need rain gear

Around Portland this week, "getting on your stomach" for a photo is going to require either rain gear or a change of clothes :-)

Wet Eh?

We've been getting some serious evening downpours here. Part of the bigger western pacific weather thing that's going on. I guess we should add rain to the mix. So if you're going to the cookoff, you've got an interesting photo to create (f2, wide angle, close up, leaf, rain and background so we know it's the cookoff. :-) --Terry

In case you weren't aware - I spent my weekend at Barber Motorsports Park and enjoyed the hospitality of the Barber Motorsports Museum.

An altogether overwhelming experience. A true photographers dream, while at the same time visual overload.

I've posted just a few of the more than 500 images I gathered on my Picasa site:

Enjoy, feel free to comment, critique or suggest.

Barber Photos

Nice work Michael. The MZ is definitely my favorite. Nicely lit, beautiful colors and it's a motorcycle. :-)

Short depth o'field

After the winds from last week, there weren't many leaves left. But I did find these images from about a month ago:

Enjoy/comment/critique away! :)

Oh what a twisted web we weave

Those are cool Keri. Even though I like the color in the first one, I think I prefer the second as it's such a nice, even background. Also the center of the web in upper left that bleeds down throughout the picture works for me. Nicely done. --Terry

Having a little trouble inserting photos here. I can get the photo inserted but have to switch to plain text to add comments. Then switch back to rich text and mess with formating. What am I doing wrong? -

Self portrait

I didn't have much time for photography this week, but I did set up this self portrait:

Fuji Superia ASA 200, f1.7, 1/30 sec.

Terry: I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but I can tell you what I do right: While editing in rich-text mode I click the Insert/Edit Image button. I then paste the image URL into the Image URL field and click Insert. Use the arrow buttons on your keyboard to move the cursor past the image.

Adding Text

Once I've inserted the photo, I can't seem to get into text adding mode.  Neither the mouse or arrows move me below the image.  Hitting return doesn't work.  I can, however add text above the image.  ????

Terry

Yeah, that part can be

Yeah, that part can be tricky. I have found that the right arrow gets the cursor after the image, but not the down arrow. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.8 FWIW.

Right Arrow

Bingo....right arrow (but only the rt arrow) moves cursor below image.  Another weird querk is only the tab key will get my cursor into the text area from Subject line.  Oh well, whatever works.  Thanks Keith
