Weekly Photo Challenge #5

Do we have a plan? Maybe.

Is it time to combine elements from previous challenges?

Or did I miss the whole meeting and I'm running around like a chicken.

Just for fun - the ubiquitious long and lonesome highway shot from my road-trip last week

Week 5 Photos

That's pretty cool Micahel.  Did you take a leak in the middle of the road?  (one of my favorite things to do)  :-)

Pick a topic for week 5.  Use some of the stuff you took as material.  We'll see what we can do. Or we can always pull something else out of the hat.

I'm cornfused

Do we have an assignment or not?

I'll be shooting at the Albany Veteran's Day parade tomorrow, so I vote for "outdoor people" Foot in mouth

The Plan

Excellent.  Looking forward to seeing the photos.  I'll check and see if we have something like that here.  If not I'm going with some surfing shots I took on Monday.  :-)

Very nice!

Lisa,

Both of those pictures are terrific. I think the pub shot captured a terrific little bit of what it means to be a member of the 'motorcyclist' world.

The garden scene is wonderful. I'm a big fan of the foreground objects school. Nice.

Both work very well as non-color images. I'm not 100% sold on the sepia but I like how the mono-tone works regardless.

Nice shooting.

Weekly Photo Challenge #5

I can't post my pics. Why? Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Is it because I'm running Vista?

Posting photos - you gots a freakin' problem?

Is it because you haven't uploaded the pictures to an accessible photo hosting site? You can use one of the free hosting sites (pbase.com or gmail both will host a surprising number of images for free). I use Picasa2 for some of my image hosting. It also is a surprisingly robust photo editor and manager. http://picasa.google.com/ Or maybe it's the BlonD problem? (running and ducking) Michael

Posting photos - you gots a freakin' problem? Had. Yes.

I figured out the posting!!! Yeah.
Critic away, I'm here to learn.

Photo posting problem

It's pretty hard to debug without a description of the problem. Boring old stuff like what did you do, what happened, were there error emssages, etc. I don't think Vista is the problem, but haven't tried it lately.

You should be able to post photos on the WetLeather site in at least two ways. 1) as an integrated part of your post (or comment) to this forum, using the little icon of a camera to the right of the Styles dropdown in the post editor's toolbar and/or 2) as a new posting of type "Image", using the "Image" link under "Create Content" in the site's main menu at the upper left of every page under your login name.

The former is a sort-of shortcut way of doing the latter, integrated with the posting of text content.  If you do the latter #2 first, you have to keep track of the URL for the image and insert it into your forum post/comment using the "Insert image" icon at the left end of the toolbar just under the boldface icon.

Does any of that help at all? E-mail me offline and I'll be happy to try and walk you through it.

Week 5 Challenge submission(s)

Ok, outdoor portraits. I think I may have posted my two favorites already on the Week 4 thread. But, I've dug through my archives and found a couple more that I'll submit for your review and critique.

Country Chic

Princess or not?

Drum Maker

Mother?

Urbanized

These pictures were all taken on the same day but in different locations. The common ground is that they were taken in downtown Eugene.

Lighting conditons were cloudy skies with some bright sun. No flash or fill lighting was used, I did use as much bounced light as possible where it was available.

Michael

Faces

A quick page with some of my favorite portraits/face shots I have taken over the last year.

Nothing much done to these except crop, and a bit of fill light on one or 2 of them.

Michael and Jack's portraits plus some surfer shots

Very nice work guys.  I like Michael's Country Chic the best.  Nice expression.  One aspect I like of Jack's photos (and they're all very nice) is the the simple, non obtrusive background.  Excellent stuff.

I'm going to be a rebel this week and post the only thing new I have...surfers.  Had some big waves last Monday.  I really need a bigger lens but my 100 f2.8 is so sharp, I can usually get an acceptable image after cropping.

Albany Veteran's Day Parade

I wasn't real happy with a lot of my photos from the parade. I had some low-quality expired film in my Canon and the wrong battery in my Yashica, so for the most part the film I shot just didn't turn out. Here are some pics I took with my Pentax digital POS ^H^H^H I mean P&S:

All of my pics, if you're interested.

VD Pics

I like a lot of the shots.  The overhead view was a nice POV.  Bright sunny days are always a challenge for people pics.  OTH bright sunny days are just plain nice to be out in.

high angle shots rock!

I really like the high angle shot of the marching band.

The shadows and the broken/cracked concrete really make the shot 'artsy'.

The high angle gives a nice perspective change.

If it was submitted to me for publicationin 'Marching Band Quarterly', I'd publish it.

Thanks for sharing Keith.

Posted photos don't show up

BJet -

I don't think you can upload photos to wetleather, you'll have to host them elsewhere and link to them in your posts. I have no idea how you managed to get the thumbnail to show up.

Michael

There is an Image Gallery

That you can upload photos too.  That is where the camera button leads to.  But I do need to host photos somewhere.  Just have never gotten to it.

--bjet

I think I'd suggest checking with Carl

We went through this not long ago with another forum member.

The camera button leads to a pop-up where you paste (or type) in the location of your image.

Hey, I could be wrong but that's how it was 'splained to me by the power that is.

Michael

Have you tried that button?

Because I get a preview of all my images in the Gallery to choose from and I also have an upload button.  Which uploads an image into this preview.

--bjet

Bjet should be right

Bjet is correct, the "camera" button does as described. It's an alternative to using "Create Content" from the main left-side ment and then choosing "image". It creates a node of type "image" on the Wetleatehr site, and embeds a link to that in your post. When it works. Which I think it mostly does, after i tweaked it a few weeks ago. But in trying to 'fix' bjet's post, I can't make it work today. Sigh.

OTOH, the "tree" button on the far left underneath the Big B Boldface button, lets you create an embedded image from a link to anywhere, not only images on the WL site.

And of course you can always use the HTML button and edit the raw HTML of your post, and change or create most any valid HTML stuff there.lolcat Sophie

nice, berry berry nice

I'm fast becoming a sucker for the look of black & white. Nice composition and tonal balance.

Ohhhh...purty. Beautiful sky. Morning?

Morning?

Nope, Saturday evening coming out of the Vantage gorge.
