I got the latest issue of American Photo last night. Was in a baggy case it included an advertisement. It was a 20"x30" double-sided poster ad for the new Nikon D3. On one side is a collage of D3s making some kind of star. On the other is a shot of motorcyclists at a race track. A smaller cropped version in the back cover of AP. It's at the edge of the track using the 18mm-24mm lense. The lead rider just about fills the frame. Has his knee down with a slider throwing sparks. In the background he is being chased by two Kawasaki 600s, a Honda, and some others. If I was given an actual print of this shot I would absolutely hang it.
Long winded but the point is I looked at the fine print. It was shot at dusk, 1/5000, F4, 6400ASA. The Idiots of the Internet have been whining about grain on a camera they do not have. This poster has far less grain than a roll of T-max 3200 I just shot. No way I could blow up any of my shots to 20"x30". I am amazed. There was a website that went with it I'll try and post that tonight.

Is the pixel war back on?
hey Bob? Have you priced a D3?
There are some who would say there's no need to go much above 10 - 12 Mp. Frankly, I don't agree. I can't afford one of the 30+Mp cameras, but I sure can appreciate their resolution.
Thanks for the link to a terrific image.
Michael
I am with you
Can always stand more pixels. D3 at $5k is decidely out of my price range. Do have serious lust for the D300 though.
