Wow - real food again!

Over the last week and a half I've actually started eating real food again! Not much, but enough to feel like a human person again. I don't know how anyone could live on protein shakes and yogurt for more than a couple of weeks. I'd go bonkers.

I was supposed to wait until four weeks before moving off pureed stuff, but I just needed to eat something I had to chew. And since I do most of the cooking around here it was getting a bit tedious to watch everyone else enjoying themselves while I ate little piles of mush.

Anyway I have to be careful to chew very well and to stay away from stuff that's too dry or hard. I can easily overwhelm my new small stomach. Slow and small are the new watchwords.

Is it worth it? So far so good. My blood sugars have been excellent as long as I take my (reduced) meds. I'm down a pant size and headed towards the next size down (soon). All my 3x stuff is getting spacious. I seem to have a bit more energy, too.

If you want to know what it's like, well, imagine carrying around a 30 lb sack of something for a very long time and then putting it down. It kind of feels like that.

We're getting into the kitchen/family room remodel project now. The deck contractor is supposed to start any day now. He'll be tearing off the rotted old deck and building us a new one. The horid 30 year old sliding doors are going away soon, too, to be replaced by new fiberglass ones (at least in one room; in the other we're still debating whether we even need a door).

Deb and I finished ripping up the underlayment through the whole front of the house in prep for putting in hardwood floors. But it looks like we won't be there for a few months. We're picking out appliances now and soon we'll be choosing counters and cabinets. Once that is all settled we can focus on ripping out the old kitchen!

By the way, if there are any WL folks who need functioning used appliances let us know. We'll have a big stainless steel sink, dishwasher (only 3 years old), jenn-aire glass top cook top, frigidare refrigerator, and a Magic Chef 24" double wall oven that will be going bye-bye. Let us know. The cooktop is probably 10 years old, the fridge is 12+ years old, and the wall ovens are about 11 years old. The sink is a Elkay Gourmet line double bowl (one big, one small with disposal unit) and attached drain board. It's big.
