In 1991 I sold my Harley stock (purchased with the money I received when I sold the '79 R65), traded in my K100RT, and bought a new R100GS.
This picture was taken in Ludlow, VT on one of the NEDoD Leaf Peeper tours in the fall of '92 or '93. Deb is wearing her old BMW full leathers (since gone to a new home). I'm in one of several one piece Aerostich Roadcrafters I've owned.
The GS was a lot of fun and I rode it hard. Deb and I took a few trips on it with me. We went to the Rallye du Quebec outside Montreal. We rode up to Moosehead Lake in Maine. I rode the bike to Du Quoin, IL for the BMW MOA National Rally one year. More than anything else I rode the GS around NH and VT on all the notches, river roads, and back roads I could find. I went camping on it many time.
By the summer of '94 Deb had been out of work for a couple of years and was finishing up grad school and getting her teaching certificate. Phil had been born in '93. We needed money. I sold the bike to Peter Peterson who proceeded to ride it across both North and South America. You can read about Peter's travels on my old R100GS at his website.
That fall I Gal Kaplan (NEDoD) gave me his R65LS to babysit until he returned to the US (someday). I rode that bike until I bought the '95 R1100RSL in April of 1995.
In many ways the R100GS was my favorite bike. I'd probably still have it if we didn't need the money back then.
